While Israel is alert to any risk of a retaliation by Iran and the Hezbollah movement in Lebanon, potentially causing a comprehensive conflict in the Middle East, Tehran has just made a new move.
On September 11, the official news agency IRNA Iran reported that the country’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is conducting military exercises from August 9-14 in the western province of Kermanshah, bordering Iraq.
An IRGC representative said the exercise aims to enhance combat readiness and raise vigilance.
The exercise took place in the context of Iran announcing that it would take action in response to Israel after the assassination of political leader of the Islamic Hamas Movement, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran on July 31. Iran and Hamas accused Israel of being behind the incident while Israel did not admit or deny the accusations.
Meanwhile, in Israel, news site Walla Citing sources, the country predicts that Iran will directly attack Israel in the coming days, before ceasefire negotiations in Gaza and the exchange of hostages, scheduled to take place on the 15th. /8, in retaliation for the assassination.
Intelligence assessment from Israel also noticed Iran’s adjustments compared to previous days. Accordingly, Iran is reconsidering its strong response to the assassination of the Hamas leader due to pressure from the international community.
According to the above source, the issue of response is causing division within Iran. President Masoud Pezeshkian wants to avoid a harsh reaction, while the IRGC wants to launch a major offensive. Currently, within Iran there is still no consensus on this issue.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced on August 11 that Iran and Hezbollah have “threatened to cause unprecedented damage in ways they have never used in the past. Whoever did that should think, we will respond in a way that has never been done before.”…
Israeli officials also warned: “We have significant capabilities. I hope they will take this into account and not cause war on other fronts.”
